Artist Statement

At one point, when younger, I did art while holding down a job.  I traveled quite a bit in my line of work which pretty much dictated that I do "small" art; I lived in the South Pacific, Africa, and in Cuba for extended periods of time and lived at other locations around the world for shorter stays (I lived in exotic sounding places like Zakhu, Berbera and Slopi... exotic in sound).  After I stopped traveling I tried my hand at art as a full time profession but found, after several years, that art, though an amazingly entertaining profession, failed when it came to supporting a family, paying for the kid's college, paying for food, that sort of thing.  I went back to work a few years ago but still make art.

Most of my work is photo-derivative.... or photo-realistic.  It is quite detailed and I enjoy the tedium of completing a work.  I have taken to working on commissions and am starting to shy away from the photo realist landscapes of old.  Still, all my work is representational in some way.

I now work with the U.S. Army as a primary job but still enjoy paintings.  I recently lost my wife who as been helping with the position, but my teens really enjoy it.  Course, I suppose they have a pretty strong influence on it.
